Brush to Keep Your Teeth

You probably wonder why you need to brush your teeth every day. The reason is, when you brush your teeth, you help remove food and plaque – a sticky film that forms on your teeth and contains bacteria. These bacteria can lead to embarrassing bad breath and more importantly, when this bacterium is left to harvest on your teeth, it can cause a more serious condition, such as gum disease. Many of you may not realize that there is a proper way to brush your teeth. Luckily, our staff at Pellegrino Cosmetic and Family Dentistry is here to share it with you.

  • Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums.

  • Move the brush back-and-forth gently in short strokes.

  • Brush the outer surfaces, the inside surfaces and the chewing surfaces of all teeth.

  • To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes.

  • Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and keep your breath fresh and don’t forget to floss!

What is a Dental Implant?

Dr. Jason Pellegrino at Pellegrino Cosmetic and Family Dentistry offers dental implants which are a popular and effective way to replace missing teeth and are designed to blend in with your other teeth. They are also an excellent long-term option for restoring your smile, but what are they exactly?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically anchored into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge in place. Implant material is made from different types of metallic and bone-like ceramic materials that are compatible with body tissue. In most cases, anyone healthy enough to undergo a routine dental extraction or oral surgery can be considered for a dental implant. The benefit of using implants is that they don’t rely on neighboring teeth for support and they are permanent and stable. Dental implants are a good solution to tooth loss because they look and feel like natural teeth.

One Visit Restorations with CEREC Technology

Thanks to CEREC technology, Dr. Jason Pellegrino at Pellegrino Cosmetic and Family Dentistry can provide patients with inlays, onlays, crowns and veneers in only one appointment. CEREC is an advanced dental technology that is utilized for the restoration of decayed, cracked, or chipped teeth and has been developed to provide you with the best possible treatment during a single visit.

With CEREC technology, you can have finished restorations in three easy steps: scanning, designing, and milling/grinding. CEREC restorations are made of compressed porcelain to match the color of your natural tooth and it for this reason that they are stronger than laboratory restorations, which are layered porcelain. The procedure to place a CEREC restoration is simple. The first step is to remove all decay from the tooth then shape the tooth in preparation to take a digital picture.  Once this image is captured, the tooth will appear on a computer screen in 3D.  This will allow the doctor to design the restoration right in front of you.

Whiten Your Teeth with ZOOM!

Many of us have lifestyle habits that lead to tooth discoloration. Surface stains on our teeth are caused by foods, beverages and lifestyle behaviors, such as smoking. Over time, these surface stains may penetrate the enamel and change the color of dentin, which darkens the overall appearance of the tooth. Fortunately, Dr. Jason Pellegrino can make your smile a little bit brighter by utilizing the ZOOM! professional whitening system.

Before deciding whether ZOOM! professional whitening is right for you, Dr. Pellegrino will conduct a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums to ensure proper health, as well as talk with you about your oral hygiene and lifestyle habits to determine if you will benefit from whitening. The complete procedure takes about 2 hours. It begins with a short preparation to cover the lips and gums, leaving the teeth exposed. Dr. Pellegrino or one of his assistants will then apply the ZOOM! hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, which works together with the ZOOM! light to penetrate the teeth and break up the stains and discoloration. The gel remains in place for three to four 15-minute sessions of light activation, for a total treatment time of 45-60 minutes.

If you desire a whiter smile, give us a call to discuss your treatment options. To learn more about ZOOM! whitening, give us a call or visit www.allentowndentist.com for more information. Oral Cancer Screenings with IDENTAFI

Cancer can affect any part of the oral cavity, including the lips, tongue, mouth, and throat. Oral cancer is one of the most curable diseases when it’s caught early. At Pellegrino Cosmetic and Family Dentistry we conduct oral cancer screenings using a technology called Identafi to stop abnormal tissue in its tracks.

Oral cancer screening is an examination performed by Dr. Jason Pellegrino to look for signs of cancer or precancerous conditions in your mouth. The goal of oral cancer screening is to identify mouth cancer early, when there is a greater chance for a cure. With Identafi technology, the detection is made through the processing of optical fluorescence and reflectance in certain body tissues. An annual Identafi exam, in combination with a regular visual examination, provides a comprehensive oral screening procedure for patients at increased risk for oral cancer.

The Identafi exam is painless, fast, and could help save your life, so don’t wait any longer to schedule an appointment for an oral cancer screening. To learn more about our oral cancer screening with Identafi, give us a call or visit www.allentowndentist.com for more information.
